The Shenandoah Valley of Virginia
Shenandoah
National Park lies astride a beautiful section of the
Blue Ridge Mountains, which form the eastern rampart of
the Appalachian Mountains between Pennsylvania and
Georgia. The Shenandoah River flows through the valley to
the west, with Massanutten Mountain, 40 miles long,
standing between the river's north and south forks.
Skyline Drive, a 105-mile road that winds along the crest
of the mountains through the length of the park, provides
vistas of the spectacular landscape to east and west. more info

Key to
that idea is U.S. Route 11, which generally
follows the path of the old Valley Pike. This will take
you "up" the Valley north to south. You
also may want to explore two other corridors full of
scenic beauty as well as interpreted Civil War sites.

The root of America's CCC Legacy
Preserving America's Natural Resources: 1933-1942
America was in the
grip of the Great Depression when Franklin Delano
Roosevelt was inaugurated in March of 1933. More
than twenty-five percent of the population was
unemployed, hungry, and without hope. The New Deal
programs instituted bold changes in the federal
government that energized the economy and created an
equilibrium that helped to bolster the needs of citizens.
