THE ART GROUP
"WORKING THE ARTS IN Virginia"

The Art Group is a non-profit group founded by artists to inform, inspire and promote the development of the arts in Shenandoah County VA. The Art Group is a gathering place; a classroom;an ever-changing exhibition area;a music venue and even a place for a friendly game of chess. We're here to get people talking with each other and sharing their ideas about the arts!

We want you- whether you are an art student, professional artist or just an art enthusiast -to be a part of The Art Group. Professional artists are encouraged to submit their work for exhibition review, budding artists are encouraged to take one of our many classes tailored to meet their needs, and art appreciators are encouraged to become a part of our gallery docent "pillars of support".

There's always something different at The Art Group. Rotating exhibits, featured artists, themed shows, quarterly art-in-action presentations, music jams, and game nights all combine to make The Art Group gallery a fun and dynamic place.

So, come on down. We can't wait to meet you.

If you would like to get involved please let The Art Group know. Call 540-477-4131
www.TheArtGroup.org

"Interstates and the overall Walmarting of America have drawn most people's attention away from small towns like Mt. Jackson. The result in not just a loss of economy for these hamlets, it also causes us to forget a part of our heritage. This country was built on a sense of community that small towns are known for. In a way that they best know how, The Art Group is trying to give that back to us". - Vincent R. McGregor Jr from Mind Candy

We at The Shenandoah Connection believe that it's all about networking, and for over six years, The Art Group has been there to join in that spirit of unity.

Grandin Theatre has gallery space just waiting for you art work. The upstairs lobby of the Grandin Theatre is available for art shows. We have 3 HUGE WALLS that have a picture railing at the top for hanging. [At this point in time, we recommend hanging pieces rather than sculptural work--our floor space is limited.]

PERKS: The Grandin provides a small amount of space in our Fri/Sat/Sun newspaper ad to announce the artist and reception (if the artist wants to have a reception/no alcohol) for the first week of the show. We prefer to run shows on a monthly basis to make programming easier, however we are flexible. [If the show could run 2 months, I would recommend it.] There is no charge to exhibit.

OTHER DETAILS: The artist is responsible for hanging and taking down their work. NO HOLES or sticky stuff on walls. The Grandin Theatre can not be held responsible for damages or theft--this has never even come up in all the years we have had shows, knock on wood! :) This is strange to mention, but it amazes me that people don't advertise themselves: please make a sheet about your self and/or contact info so that people who are interested in your work can contact you. The Grandin Theatre prefers the artist to handle the sale of their work directly.
