About Starship Ed: Trained as a painter and a graphic artist, Starship Ed has been writing and performing his own prog rock songs since 1975. Since that time he's shared the bill with the likes of Mojo Nixon, Jello Biafra and Dika Newlin. He was a founding member of Richmond Va.'s premier comedy improv group "The Underground" and has acted in productions for The Blue Ridge Players, Vegetable Television, The John Rolfe Players and The Wayside Theater. The last twelve months have been a very busy period for Starship Ed. Beginning in October of 2003 he spent a heady eight months working with three consecutive productions at Wayside Theater in Middletown, Virginia. In November he made his second appearance on their stage as the Ghost of Christmas Present in their production of "A Christmas Carol." In January 2004 he began work on the Wayside touring production of "Tom Sawyer" and in February he was heard as accoustic guitarist and back-up vocalist for their production of "A Closer Walk With Patsy Cline" which turned out to be Wayside's longest-running show and one of its most successful shows to date. In September of 2003, Ed began a working musical association with longtime friend and tech wizard Will O'Donovan (the original "Panic" lineup, also on "The Spanish Apes" album, "Eat".) Their first recordings are available now on their CD "The Storm," a powerful free form space music suite with distinct prog rock influences. "The Storm" is dedicated to the memory of their good friend Bob Bruce, whose tragic death during hurricane Isabel last year had shocked and saddened their circle of friends and fellow artists known as The Mental Hygiene League. In addition to performing his own original progressive rock songs at private parties and fundraisers, Starship Ed has been proud and pleased to entertain for the children of the Mountain Laurel Montessori School in Front Royal, Virginia. Their loving and enthusiastic reception has re-energized him and helped him to focus new energy on performance opportunities for children. Ed is scheduled to appear at the children's show at the Edinburg, Virginia Old Time Festival later this summer. Ed sends special thanks to Wilhelmina Santiful and to Tara McKechny for helping him to begin this new direction. Currently he is at work on a show for children based on "Songs of Innocence and Experience" by William Blake. Ed's paintings have been displayed at The Carriage House Gallery and Pace Memorial United Methodist Church, both in Richmond. He is currently at work on a series of paintings based on the natural sciences. Starship Ed is available to play concerts, private parties children parties and other events in The Shenandoah Valley and surrounding areas. He is happy to book benefit and charitable performances whenever he is available. Contact - Edward Kyle 540-436-3973 ShenandoahMusic.Com Open Mic and
